Ever since I was a little girl I’ve dreamed of owning a Dobermann. They had cropped ears back in the 80’s, docked tails and a tough reputation. A mythic pair was featured on the famous “Magnum” detective show, and they were the default K9 villains in any motion picture piece.
Life had very different plans in stock for me, and for ten years I bred, raised and showed conformation lines Belgian Malinois, with lots of success. However after a 5 year break from any dog ownership altogether, when time came to shop for a new pet, I had little doubt that I wanted a Dobe.
As a photographer, a pup becomes a very natural subject. They’re cute, they’re fun, they don’t mind having a camera jabbed in their face all day, so in a way they’re the perfect model. But I soon discovered something else about Dobes. They are unearthly photogenic ! The pure lines, the rich color and markings, the expressive eyes, the shiny smooth coat that catches light and gives a thousand tints of shadows, all in a Dobe is meant to be photographed. So here’s a little selection of photo tribute to this fantastic breed.
